Keepsakes
It's only a movie, just pretend
like when you play with your friends
Isn't it cool, now you know it's fake?
Sit by me, the seat's yours to take.
You must give respect and earn it too
Not everything's a game, you'll learn it soon
But you gotta laugh and have some fun
Everyday, when you're old and when you're young
Keep your word, it's all you've got
Honor yourself even if others do not
It's okay to be afraid,
to face it is when you're really brave
Nothing lasts forever and that's okay
I'm always here, here to say
You're stronger than you know
You can do anything and travel wherever you want to go
Follow your dreams and do your best
then you'll be able to handle the rest
For yourself, love and respect
then to others that will reflect
I have a lot to learn, this is true
But I've gotten this far because of you
These lessons are the best I've had
All my thanks, I love you dad

Reminders
Useless memories
On listless petals
To dry
To preserve
Dust distorts the image
This isn't how it was.

Disappointed Ghosts
Once afflicted with blind heart and unknowing soul
The answers came too late for thoughts to bestow
a single action for which to shift the winds
Never to know what may have been
From dreams, awakened by the light
of hard truths and self-sacrifice
Injustice of my own doing now repaid
and however long, here to stay
In the end it's fair enough
I say I'm done, but call my bluff
These ghosts hold tightly from within
Clawing up my throat, trying to win
Delicate hands I can't forget
Memories of laughter haunt me yet
In my pride and judgment lapsed, I was wrong in my stance
For I betrayed those ghosts and that tender, guarded heart

Literature
When it Comes
The sweetest of clouds above will weep
Silence shall befall those questions most heart-twisting
No more to ponder when darkness and luminescence start kissing
As high as the head ascends, these feet will never leave the ground again
The day won't be more fond to fading
Nor the birds cease singing, nor the madman raving
The roaring in my ears is only the grass growing
And for now the ice will turn wills to bowing
When it comes, the signature will be bled in red
A contract to dismiss contact
To step back and away while the gaze leads astray
Turning absentmindedly from the lightning striking my chest
Resting this head on the softest pillow of needles
Piecing together piercing thoughts in ways so heedless
These muscles will always bleed for those sweetest of clouds
Because it will never come

Madness
Hands like the twisted claws of a hag
tear at my eyes for the beauty
of this world and the sweet touch
of a gentle lover in the dark
Those same corkscrew fingers
ache to scratch at the dull, blue wire
in hopes to restart, in an effort
to escape each echoing failure
Shifting patterns in the floor
hint at the hopes of a snap
Insects darting just out of sight
Fallen mindless, falling short
Wanting for what's not there
Dreaming for what's undeserved
The doctor has become the patient
with no patience for such madness

Literature
This Monster
With piercing hunger my tongue drags
across the bones of thoughts of destruction
This monster feeds on unknown ghosts and
deep mandrake roots
To theorize disembodied deconstruction
As a mad doctor dissects existence
This monster will slip into darkness
or draw darkness down over you
Who controls these hidden claws?
The ones that will ruin you
or plunge into myself
to puddle toxicity beneath those nearest
Yet, hopeful bats seek out the moths
from a natural will
But there is no satiety
for moths seek out the light

Allegory of the Cave
I catch myself in glimpses, bittersweet--
Or the shadow at least,
Of the stranger I am
My eyes still ill-adjusted
To discern the fine gradations
Between who I am and who I want to be.
There's surely goodness there--
And passion, too, but anger
And dissatisfaction
And far too much concern
For how my self's reflected in your eyes.
Long years ago, someone carved the phrase
"Know thyself" above
The Great Temple at Delphi--
For how can we subsist in darkness,
Imago Dei, that we are?
Were I to see one day at last
My soul diffracted
In rainbow hues in full sunlight--
To be, in a word,
All I was ever meant to be--
As the great woman is the humble woman
Her soul a magnification
For light never breaks, but bends,
And once bent, so easily burns--
Dare I not set the world ablaze?

Bright Nights
When the sun rises and the birds sing,
And your brain thinks it's broken.
The consciousness clings onto nothing,
What a horrible sensation;
To be lost where you are found.
Now I can join the drowned,
Drenched in disorientation.

Simmering
I'm sad today,
And feeling guilty
Because I'm safe and loved
And have no reason to be sad.
My brain is peppery
And simmering in bad chemicals.

Literature
Echoes
There's a girl in a Sherpa hat
Sitting by the window
Alone, her lips move silently,
Reciting conversations past
Or conversations yet to come.
She stares at nothing,
But I can see the troubles reflected in her eyes,
I can see the workings of her mind,
The thoughts she turns over and over again.
She cries for answers
But only hears echoes.

Consent
I wasn't sure how to feel afterward,
All I know is this:
If you had asked,
I would have said yes,
But you didn't.

the lion's tooth grave of prague
The sidewalk is dyed green again
with dandelion blood:
white wispy limbs litter the cobblestone
alongside the scars of bony stems.
I am not a witness,
only a passerby. I stand
in awe but not in sorrow
of the departed dandelions,
their souls crushed under street mower hell.
I pull a survivor from the grass
and breathe to strip it of its flesh
so that its wish is granted:
to not be left alone.

european perfume
i remember
the reek of cigarettes
suffocating me in some
narrow european town,
lingering on the breath
of a sitting artist,
saying a coin for
your troubles please
or on the chest
of some douchebag
i put my arms around
who promised he'd
put my heart at ease--
as if he'd carry
that promise back to
the states
and think of me.
but those cigarettes
were never insurance
for dreams:
just a smell to obscure time
and stupid hopes
and a stain to wash away
from your mother's jacket
knowing you've changed
but you haven't the heart
to see the change in others.

I was interviewed recently about my work as an author! You can check it out here: reneesauthorspotlight.blogspot…

Renee Scattergood is a supporter of indie authors and an author herself, I cannot thank her enough for giving me this opportunity! We indie artists are a great community and it's so important that we support each other. Be sure to check out Renee's work as well!

I wrote this two years ago for my dad's birthday. It only seems right now to share it with everyone. Thank you for all the laughs dad and the lessons too. I love you and miss you so much.

While I'm not an artist, I am a writer. I write in various genres and my projects mostly consist of full length books. I'm currently working on several writing projects, but have finished and self-published two works. I've written a informational book on witchcraft titled It's Witchcraft, available through Lulu, Amazon, Nook, and the other various channels. I have also self-published a small book of poems titled Storm in My Teacup and Other Poems, also available through Lulu, Amazon, etc. A friend of mine suggested I use Deviant Art to get my work out there more, so I'm taking her advice. Through writing, it is my goal to connect with people in a way in which a reader can feel understood, inspired, and not so alone. For me, reading has always been an escape as well as a place where I could find understanding in myself and the world around me. That's what I want to provide to others through my writing. Whichever work of mine you read, I do hope you enjoy it.

Hehe welcome to deviantart! I hope you like it here~ I noticed you're a writer? You should try joining some of the journal groups so you can spread your stories, it's a little harder to be noticed on here than most places.
Try: :iconunseen-writers: I hope your writing gets the credit it deserves! It's amazing!
